Franklin Adhesives & Polymers’ newest product for bonding HPL to particleboard and fiberboards – and for installing acoustic panels on walls and ceilings – meets tough MBDC requirements for safety to humans and the environment and also passes UL723 and ASTM E84 testing for surface-burning characteristics. Strong initial tack and quick set time improve productivity in all applications.

Franklin Adhesives & Polymers, a division of Franklin International, has launched a new adhesive – Quickset 1000 FR – for use in the manufacture of office furniture and installation of acoustic panels that is most notable for achieving both MBDC (McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry) certification and fire rating.

Quickset 1000 FR is a polyvinyl acetate (PVA) emulsion adhesive that meets the rigorous requirements of MBDC’s Cradle-to-Cradle CertifiedMC program for safety to humans and the environment and design for future life cycles. The MBDC program is administered by the Cradle to Cradle Product Innovation Institute and evaluates products and materials on criteria in five areas: material health, material reutilization, energy use, water stewardship and social responsibility. Certified products are eligible for LEED points as an Environmentally Preferable Materials in USGBC’s LEED for Homes Rating System; under the Innovation in Design category in all LEED rating systems; and under the Pilot Credit 43: Certified Products in all LEED rating systems.

Furniture manufacturers, specifically, can use the program’s toxicity assessment toward the Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association (BIFMA) level certification for sustainability.

In addition to meeting the MBDC certification, Quickset 1000 FR also passes UL723 and ASTM E84 testing for surface burning characteristics of building materials. These ratings indicate that Quickset meets tough safety requirements for retarding the spread of fire.

Beyond its ability to meet high standards for environmental and consumer safety, Quickset 1000 FR also is notably fast and easy to use. It generates strong initial tack and sets quickly, increasing productivity in furniture manufacture and speeding up installation of acoustic panels. It also is very versatile: Although flexibility and good initial tack render it ideal for nip role operations, it also can be cold pressed. Its one-component, water-based PVA formulation requires no mixing before application, and users can easily clean it when wet with warm water.

New Quickset 1000 FR takes its place among Franklin Adhesives & Polymers’ broad offering of wood adhesives for assembly, edging and facing, lamination, veneering and finger jointing applications. Furniture manufacturers, and acoustic ceiling installers can get more information on Quickset and any of these wood adhesives at; via email,; or by phone,1.800.877.4583.
